A top singles skater on the East Coast throughout her competitive career, Deborah Wilker was a three-time North Atlantic champion, six-time Regional medalist, five-time Easterns Sectionals competitor and silver medalist. At the senior level she was the Providence Open champion, Lake Placid Open champion and North Atlantic silver and bronze medalist. She toured professionally with The Ice Capades and later signed with Holiday On Ice in Europe.
Deb grew up skating at the first Peter Burrows Skating School in Port Washington, NY, and later trained at the Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado Springs with Christy Krall. Her training also includes years of off-ice study with dance innovators Maurice Hines, Luigi and Frank Hatchett in New York City. A USFS Gold Medalist in Figures and Freestyle, Deb is particularly skilled at teaching jumps, compulsory school figures and high-performance mindset.
After earning her BA degree from the University of Miami, she went on to a long career as a national print and broadcast journalist, returning to the ice in 2009. She has worked with thousands of young people over the last 30 years — off-ice as well, leading classroom journalism workshops at high schools and colleges. In 2015 — under the guidance of Pines coach Tracey Damigella — Deb passed the Masters version of Gold Moves In The Field with one of the highest scores ever awarded in that discipline. She continues as a writer, producer and consultant for global media organizations.
