Equipment Advice:


Figure Skates:
Recommended brands are Jackson & Riedell. These skates can be found at our pro shop. You can purchase them for about $100-$150. To perform tricks, jumps and spins, figure skates are a must .

Hockey Skates:
Recommended brands are CCM and Bauer. Entry level hockey skates can be found in our pro shop for about $70 to $150. Hockey skates are a must if you want to play ice hockey.

Off Brand Skates may be found at many stores but should only be used for recreational skating.

4-WEEK: “INTRODUCTION TO ICE SKATING” MINI SEMESTER
Saturday 12:00-1:00pm

This 4 week group class begins with a 15 minute off-ice segment where the students learn: Safety tips, pre skating stretches, proper skate lacing & fit, how to balance/walk in skates off ice. On Ice instruction includes: 45 minute on-ice class learning the basics of Ice Skating. ALL 4-week “Introduction to skating” students receive FREE skate rental for their classes, one pair of gloves, plus FREE public skating on Saturday (must show current class card in office). This class is open to ages 3 through Adult; Children under 6 must wear a helmet and ALL skaters must wear gloves. ONE make up class is allowed on Wednesday 5:30-6:15pm Learn to Skate Class. NO repeat registration for 4-week mini semester.

PINES PENGUINS: “ACCELERATION PROGRAM”

***Recommended for skaters coming from 4-week class and all beginners ages 3-12yrs*** This 8-week acceleration program is recommended for beginning Ice Skaters. The basics of Ice Skating are taught and cultivated through skill based games and obstacle courses, with an emphasis on learning the FUNdamentals of skating. This class is open to ages 3yrs through 12yrs; children under 6 must wear a helmet and ALL skaters must wear gloves. There is also a “Learn to Play” hockey section (Hockey 1) for aspiring Hockey players. Helmet, knee pads, hockey gloves required. Once the skater has completed the levels of our Penguin program, he or she will be ready to continue on to our designated Hockey or Figure Skating classes. While enrolled in the 8-week semester, our Penguins skaters receive FREE skate rental on their class day, FREE public skating on ANY of our scheduled public sessions (must show current class card in office). On the 8th week of classes, the skaters are evaluated on their progress. First time registrants receive a FREE Pines Penguins sweatshirt to wear for classes. This class is open to ages 3yrs through 12yrs; children under 6 must wear a helmet and ALL skaters must wear gloves. Make-up classes are available during the other Penguins class or during the 8-week “Learn to Skate” classes (Wednesday 5:30-6:15pm, Saturday 12:15-1:00pm, Sunday 12:15-1:00pm).

8-WEEK “LEARN TO SKATE”

This 8-week group class offers a wide variety of levels for beginning Hockey or Figure Skaters. The levels range from first steps all the way through to basic jumps/spins (pre-freeskate). On the 4th week the coaches do a mid-point evaluation, so the skater and parent are aware of the progress made and any improvements still needed before the final evaluation on the 8th week. While enrolled in the 8-week semester, our ”Learn to Skate” skaters receive FREE skate rental on their class day, FREE public skating on ANY of our scheduled public sessions (must show current class card in office). First time registrants receive a FREE “iskate” sweatshirt to wear for classes. Make-up classes are available during any of the other 8-week “Learn to Skate” days (Wednesday 5:30-6:15pm, Saturday 12:15-1:00pm, Sunday 12:15-1:00pm). **Ask about our UNLIMITED Learn to Skate package! $299 for ALL THREE class days for 8 weeks**

8-WEEK “ JUMP & SPIN ACADEMY“ ”

This specialty class is for skaters that have graduated from our 8-week Learn to Skate program and are ready for more advanced training. The skater should be in the Freeskate 3 to Pre-Preliminary levels. The skaters will receive in depth instruction about the mechanics of advanced Jumping and Spinning. On the 4th week the coaches do a mid-point evaluation, so the skater and parent are aware of the progress made and any improvements still needed before the final evaluation on the 8th week. While enrolled in the 8-week semester, our ”Jump & Spin Clinic” skaters receive FREE public skating on ANY of our scheduled public sessions (must show current class card in office). First time registrants receive a FREE “iskate” sweatshirt to wear for classes. No make-up classes offered, but pro-rates are available. *Director approval needed prior to first time enrollment*

INTRODUCTION TO PRE-HOCKEY/ PRE-HOCKEY “HOCKEY 2/ HOCKEY3”

Intro. To Pre Hockey (Hockey 2): This 8-week semester, which teaches the skating skills required to play hockey is designed for first time hockey players. Youth Hockey Director or Figure Skating Director must approve registration for this class. Skaters must be able to skate forward, backwards and stop with ease before enrolling. No make-up classes offered, but pro-rates are available. Group class card gives students FREE admission to any public session during their semester (must show current class card in office). The following equipment is required: helmet with cage, hockey skates, gloves, stick, shoulder and elbow pads, mouth & neck guard. First time registrants receive a FREE hockey jersey to wear for classes. Pre Hockey (Hockey 3): In this 8-week semester, the kids continue learning foundational hockey skills while applying them to game simulation scrimmages. No make-up classes offered, but pro-rates are available. Group class card gives students FREE admission to any public session during their semester (must show current class card in office). The following equipment is required: helmet with cage, hockey skates, gloves, stick, shoulder and elbow pads, mouth & neck guard. First time registrants receive a FREE hockey jersey to wear for classes.

 

***Effective July 1st 2019, each skater will be required to register for Learn to Skate USA membership ONE TIME per year only. The membership is good July 1, 2019 – June 30, 2020 ***
